Ancestor - Ethel Beymer |
Ethel Belle Beymer was born in Detroit on April 23, 1890 - just minutes apart from her twin sister Edith."when the twins were born, Edith was plump and Ethel was skinny. The doctor told Mother to put Edith on the bottle and breast feed Ethel, this she did and Ethel grew fat and well and Edith was always losing weight. There were no canned or packaged baby food in those days, and one used cows milk.Grandfather Gregory lived on the home farm near Columbus and had a housekeeper. When the twins were babies, Mother took all us children and went to visit her father. His housekeeper told Mother that Edith could not digest cow's milk, but to take dry bread, break it up, soften it with a little warm water, add a little sugar, and a little cream. Feed it to the baby and as she could digest it to gradually add a little milk. This Mother did and Edith grew well and fat. Ethel was never sick, so the trip was well worth while."excerpt from Hazel Beymer Smith's, The Beymer Story |
