Marguerite Bourgeoys

This past summer we visited the museum of Maison Gabriel in Montreal.  We passed but did not go into the museum of Marguerite Bourgeoys in old Montreal, however I did purchase a book about her and thought I would share some of the excerpts from it.  She was indeed a remarkable person, like many of us, at times confused and not sure of our place in this world (God's will).

Synopsis based upon the book:  In the Company of Marguerite Bourgeoys by sister Florence Quigley, C.N.D. [Congregation of Notre-Dame]

"To walk in the company of Marguerite Bourgeoys is to become more aware that she was a women deeply committed to the Gospel after the example of our Lady in the mystery of the Visitation.  The secret of her laborious life, fruitful in works beneficial to her neighbor, lies in that union with God which made her a contemplative in action.

A women of action:  the woman who had the cross erected on Mount Royal, who initiated the building  of the Chapel of Bons Secours, who opened the first school to serve the families of Ville Marie and the "mountain school" for the Indian children, who founded an uncloistered apostolic religious community to respond to the needs of this new country"

Louise Cote, C.N.D, Superior General
