"Our Canadian Forefathers" |
Canadians are very fortunate in search of their forefathers because many can be directly traced back to the 1600s when young King Louis the 14th of France (age 22 - the Sun King) wanted to populate his colony of New France. Although he sent many immigrants, few remained and had children. In fact, only about 4,500 males did so. Why was this so? Well for one thing, Canada had a bad reputation for being a wild, distant and dangerous country (which of course it was!) France was not over populated but it did have it's own share of problems with the dreaded plague and various wars. |

CBC prepared a video history of Canada and aired the episodes over 2 seasons beginning in 2000 and finishing in 2001. While the video is no longer available on the website, the epsiode summarys offers us a glimpse into the times and trials are ancestors faced. While the facts sometimes differs from other resources, it's dramatization helps bring this history to life. CBC's main history web site http://history.cbc.ca/histicons/. I have selected just a few of the many clips available. |
