Onisome Xavier Langlois Family

Dr. Langlois was a well known Windsor physician and father of Father Wilfrid Langlois, a much beloved Catholic Priest in Windsor.

Father Wilfrid was much beloved by all those who had come to know him.  He named his first church after his sister, Rosalie, and then served for many years teaching at St. Mary's Academy in south Windsor.  It was the sisters of St. Mary's responsible for this beautiful memorial.  The Pierre Langlois monument is directly behind the monument's cross.

With the passing of Father Wilfrid Langlois, a branch of the historic border family comes to an end as well.  There were no more male Langlois to continue the family name.  A quote from the Border City Star, dated 26 Aug 1933 best sums it up:

"The salent fact here is that this branch of the Langlois dies with the present generation.  After 184 years on the border, a family which has given to society and religion, men and women of outstanding stamina and devotion, disappears from the genealogical records.

But the name shall live, not only as a result of achievements the souvenir of which is preserved in the archives, but because of a recognition that is indelibly printed in some of Windsor's main thoroughfares.

Langlois avenue was named after Leon Langlois, great-grand uncle of Father Langlois; Pierre avenue -- not Pee-ray, but Pee-ayre -- was named after Pierre Langlois, Fr. Langlois grandfather; and Ouellette avenue was named after Vital Ouellette, Fr. Langlois' great-grandfather, on his mother's side."
