Eliza Crosby |
DEATH OF MRS. CROSBY.A Resident of Manistee for Thirty-four Years. |
Mrs. William Crosby died Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nels Bertelson, who resides near Onekama. She had attained the advanced age of seventy-four years, and her death is attributable more to her age and consequent debility than to any specific disease. She was the mother of Doctor Crosby, formerly of Ludington, but now practicing in Sheboygan, and of Mrs. Eugene Wexstaff, Mrs. Dell Chapin of Bear Lake, and Mrs. Nels Bertelson. Her husband survives her.William Crosby and wife are among the oldest residents of this section. They came here thirty-four years ago. Mrs. Crosby had the love and esteem of all who knew her. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning at half past ten at the farm of Nels Bertelson, and interment will be at the Onekama cemetery. Rev. A.T. Ferguson of the First street Methodist church will officiate. ___________________________ Manistee Daily News, Wed. March 14, 1900 |

Pierre Gignac |
-- appearing in the Windsor Star -- |
Pierre Gignac, died at the residence of his son, Hilaire, Tuesday April 25, 1904. Deceased was born in the Township of Sandwich West, November 18, 1810, and resided in that township for 76 years, moving from there to Sandwich. About two years previous he came to this township and made his home with his son until the time of his death. He was married about 56 year ago to Odile Charette by whom he had eleven children, nine of whom and his widow who survive him. Those living are Hilaire, of Anderdon; Eli and Albert of Windsor; Jerry and William of Wyandotte, Michigan; Mrs. Hubert Renaud, of Wyandotte; Mrs. Maxime Antaya, Detroit; Mrs. Charles Renaud, of Belle Rive and Mrs. Auresine Rocheleau, Sandwich West. He is also survived by 50 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted in the R.C. church, River Canard and interment was in the Canard cemetery.___________________________Typed copy obtained from the Obituary File at the Windsor Public Library. Editors note - I believe there is a typographical error in the November 18, 1810 birthdate. I believe that the typist meant to type 1819 and not 1810. The record of his death as entered in St. Joseph's River Canard register list his age as 84 years. |

S. A. Langlois, Noted Essex Singer DeadI had wondered who was this Samuel Langlois buried in the Onisome Langlois family plot. It turns out he was the brother of Onisome's wife, Rosalie M. Langlois. Sameul used the stage name Sylvain Langlois and was a famous opera singer who because of his profession -- traveled and lived away from home (Windsor) most of his life.Click on obituary to read |
