Came to work in the lumber mills near Manistee, Michigan and then later became a farmer in Onekama, Michigan.

Alt Name: Nels Bertelson (he changed the sen to son, son Prentiss (Bert) changed spelling back to Danish sen.

• Immigration: Immigrated from Denmark, with half brother, 5 May 1869, New York. Arrived on board the Cimbria with half brother. Occupation listed as farmer, age listed as 16, port of Departure was Hamburg,DE and Le Havre, France. • Land: Farms: Onekama, MI. The Bertelson Cemetery is located on the old Bertelsen family farm. Crops grown today are asparagus and Christmas trees. It is no longer held in the family, as most of the children moved downstate to the Detroit area.

Niels married Sarah Ann CROSBY, daughter of William CROSBY and Eliza Jane HENRI, on 5 Apr 1876 in Arcadia, MI. (Sarah Ann CROSBY was born on 20 Dec 1855 in Albany , New York, died in 1934 in Onekama, MI and was buried in 1934 in Bertelson Cemetery, Bear Lake, MI.)
