William CROSBY
Acquired 160 acres of farmland on 1 Feb 1873 - Homestead Act, 1862. This farm -- of which 119 acres was later given to Niels Bertelsen, husband of daughter Saarh. Presumed to have sold the other acreage -- probably the north 40 at a later date and moved into town.
• Military Service: Civil War Veteren - Michigan Volunteer, 1864-1865. Enlisted in company K, Eighth Cavalry, Jan 5, 1864, at Allegan, for 3 years, age 30. Mustered Jan. 26, 1864. Discharged for disability at Pulaski, Tenn., June 15, 1865. William married Eliza Jane HENRI in 1853 in Albany ?, New York. (Eliza Jane HENRI was born in 1826 in Ireland and died on 13 Mar 1900 in Onekama, MI.) |
